What Not to do During an Eclipse

What NOT to do during a Solar Eclipse.

(Hint: number ten is the most important.)

There are many teachings around the nature of eclipses, but often traditional cultures hold to strong cautions which make a great deal of sense.

We are electrical beings, and our Sun is the source of our connection to light and life. If the sun were to expire tomorrow, life on our planet would cease to exist.

During an eclipse we are cut off from our connection to this source of life, and we experience 50 times the energetic magnitude of our usual night versus day. However we choose to name the shadow or negative energies, these are heightened during an eclipse, often to an intense degree. Traditional cultures suggest that exposing ourselves to these dark energies is not beneficial and may even be dangerous, especially if you are in fragile health or have a sensitive nature. Instead of opening ourselves to these influences, choose simple protections instead.

If we are familiar with understanding shadow as an opportunity for cleansing fears and limitation, this perspective can be very beneficial during the days surrounding an eclipse. Conflict, loss, fatigue, irritability, depression and challenge may all increase, and we are reminded not to attach to these external experiences and remain focused upon inner expansion.

Souls may choose to transition at this time, and natural disasters increase.

Many indigenous and traditional teachings advise the following:

1) Do NOT to attempt to view a solar eclipse, even with special glasses. Do not attempt to photograph it without a filter or your camera may be damaged.

2) Do not go outdoors, especially to large gatherings. Stay under shelter.

3) Do not consume alcohol or consciousness altering substances. Increase your spiritual practice with focus before, after and especially during the eclipse. Apply principles to uplift and calm your nervous system. Focus upon this time as an opportunity for profound awakening and healing.

4) Do not eat or drink during the eclipse, and avoid eating for several hours. Eclipse energy may negatively affect digestion in powerful ways.

5) Do not leave out food and drink during the eclipse. Put away all edibles so they are not exposed to eclipse energies.

6) Do not sleep or engage in sex or any energetically disruptive activities during the eclipse.

7) Do not make important decisions or be reactive to the heightened emotions of others.

8) Do not be insensitive to your animal companions. They will be attuned to the energies of this time and may exhibit unusual behaviours. Keep them indoors and comfortable.

9) Do not spend time in crowded, heavy, dark or cluttered environments. Cleanse and clear your space with smudge, fresh air and decluttering. Shower or bathe after the eclipse is complete.

10) Do not dwell in fear. Recognize that the eclipse energy may be sustained after the eclipse for weeks, months or even years, and make a conscious decision to set loving, uplifting intentions so that the cleansing effects of the eclipse may offer benefit. Always, always CHOOSE to release fear.

Wishing you a powerful and transformative solar eclipse of 2017.
